The absinthe fountain doesn’t dispense absinthe – it dispenses ice-cold water! Because absinthe is such a highly alcoholic drink (and also leaves quite a bitter aftertaste) it is rarely drunk neat. As we explained on the How to Drink Absinthe page, the standard mixer is water.
These water dispensers tend to be very ornate and, with the relaxing of the absinthe laws in many countries, they have once gain become desirable objects; they are available from many absinthe specialist suppliers.
They are often supplied as part of a set and come packaged with absinthe glasses and spoons. However, they are not cheap to buy; the set in the photo costs around $200.
